यो मामेवमसम्मूढो जानाति पुरुषोत्तमम्।स सर्वविद्भजति मां सर्वभावेन भारत।।15.19।।

Translation

He who knows Me without doubt as the Supreme Divine Personality truly has complete knowledge; he worships Me with his whole being, O son of Bharata.

Understanding the Verse

This verse emphasizes the pinnacle of spiritual realization – the devotee who perceives the Lord as the Supreme Personality of Godhead without any mental hesitation or confusion. The Sanskrit term asammūḍha literally means "without bewilderment"; it denotes a mind that is completely clear, free from doubt, and firmly fixed on the divine truth. Such clarity arises only after diligent practice of yoga, self‑inquiry, and sincere devotion, whereby the seeker dispels all material misconceptions and sees the Supreme as the ultimate reality.

The phrase puruṣottama is a compound of puruṣa (person) and uttama (supreme), signifying the highest manifestation of the cosmic principle – the Lord Himself, who is the source, sustainer, and terminus of all creation. By stating that the knower “knows Me as puruṣottama”, the verse affirms that true knowledge is not merely intellectual but a heartfelt identification of the Lord’s supreme position.

The subsequent clause, sa sarva‑vid bhajati māṁ sarva‑bhāvena, describes the natural outflow of such unwavering knowledge. The word sarva‑vid means "one who knows everything" – a person whose intellect has absorbed the totality of Vedic wisdom and has integrated it into his consciousness. Consequently, his devotional service (bhakti) becomes all‑encompassing (sarva‑bhāvena), meaning he worships the Lord with every thought, word, deed, and emotion. This total devotion is the hallmark of the perfected yogi, who serves the Divine not out of obligation but as an expression of his innermost identity.

Addressing Arjuna as bhārataḥ (son of Bharata) re‑establishes the personal link between the teacher and the disciple. It reminds Arjuna – and the reader – that the path laid out in the Gita is universally applicable, transcending caste, status, or historical context. Anyone who attains this state of unshakable certainty and all‑embracing worship is rightly called a true devotee, regardless of external qualifications.

From a practical standpoint, this verse encourages aspirants to cultivate two complementary qualities: steadfast conviction in the Supreme and comprehensive devotion that permeates every facet of life. It warns against half‑hearted belief or selective worship, which can fragment spiritual progress. Instead, by nurturing absolute faith and total surrender, a seeker aligns his individual will with the divine will, thereby achieving the highest state of liberation (moksha) that the Bhagavad‑Gītā envisions.
